Lakeside Drive Community Garden MEETING – Monday 27th July 5:30 – 7:00pm, for those interested in drawing themes from the Visioning Day hot potato exercise and planning the ‘Principles and Ethics’ meeting on August 10th. An agenda for this Monday night’s meeting is attached – we will discuss this agenda at the beginning of the meeting and affirm the priorities and time limits on items for discussion. Ian has agreed to facilitate the meeting and Dave will co-facilitate. Is anyone interested in being the minute taker/scribe for this meeting? We will discuss more about roles that need to be filled on the night. Thanks to Ian, Dave & Roger for assisting with this Monday night’s agenda.
‘Visioning Day’ for Lakeside Drive Community Garden
Sunday 28th June from 2 – 4 pm at the Alawa Community Hall on Lakeside Drive.
The proposed community garden is a student-led initiative of CDU Talloires, a recently formed group of students who want to make a difference in the community. The community garden is an official CDU project and we have Darwin City Council in-principal support.
Preliminary project scoping by the students revealed that there is a one year waiting list for the Jingili Community Garden. A community garden at nearby CDU could meet existing demand as well as provide an opportunity for local residents, community organisations, CDU students and staff. We envisage the community garden as a space for:
- Growing fruit and vegetables using organic methods and water minimisation
- Social inclusion and cultural diversity community projects
- Community Based Learning – design, multi media, grant applications, horticulture
- Building knowledge – research on environmental sustainability and healthy communities
The ‘Visioning Day’ is an opportunity to open the project to the wider community and the purpose of the gathering is to:
- Provide the background, history and current status of the project
- Engage individuals and community organisations in developing a shared vision of the project
- Invite expressions of interest in participation in the community garden project.
